Our Structure

Description of Origins of RTO/ERO Toronto Districts (PDF ~ 32kb)

The four Toronto Districts,

  • Etobicoke/City of York ~ 22
  • North York ~ 23
  • Scarborough/East York ~ 24
  • Toronto ~ 16

in 2001, voluntarily agreed to establish our structure to better communicate with the local school boards, teachers, administrators, and their respective unions/organizations.

This action was precipitated by the complete reorganization of the former public boards into the new Toronto District School Board that in turn, cut  off the former contacts each District had once enjoyed; and, make contact with the then new Elementary Teachers of Toronto.

It was also felt that a stronger connection to the Toronto Catholic District School Board and the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association was necessary.

This would provide for a better opportunity to contact potential new members as they approached retirement.

Additionally, with the changes in education, contact with teacher and administrator representatives was necessary to show the continued interest in education within the community of retired teachers.

There are four 'officer' positions: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer.

Decisions are made by consensus and items for discussion are referred by the Districts, or precipitated by RTO/ERO Senate/Executive motions, or may arise from developing matters.

Meetings are typically every-two-months (October, December, February, April) but may also occur as necessary.

Activities and expenses are paid for through requests to each District. Financial statements are reported at each meeting and are available to District Treasurers upon request.
