ETOBICOKE/YORK ~ RTO/ERO DISTRICT 22
BACKGROUND
District 22 is made up primarily of educators who
worked or live in the former Cities of Etobicoke and York. With the new
amalgamated City of Toronto it is hoped that we will continue to attract
retiring members from the western sections of the city.
In 1968, when STO (Superannuated Teachers of
Ontario) was brought into being, the province was divided into 10
geographic Areas. Toronto being Area 8. This structure only lasted 5
years. In 1973 constitutional changes were made and 24 Districts were
established. Etobicoke and York was one of these original 24 Districts.
Today we have 42 Districts.
The History of District 22 (Etobicoke & York)
1968 Superannuated Teachers
of Ontario (STO/ERO) was formed. This name was changed to Retired
Teachers of Ontario (RTO/ERO) in 1998.
1973 Districts were formed
with their own executives. District 22 was composed of retired men and
women teachers from the areas of York and Etobicoke, and included
elementary, secondary and separate school teachers. The first General
meeting was held in October 1973 with fifty retired teachers attending.
Constitution The District 22
Constitution was approved at the June 11, 1990 Annual Meeting. It was
revised June 6, 2002.
