I became active in RTO/ERO because I had two major concerns. First, I thought we should have more say in what happens to any surplus accrued by our pension fund. I was looking to such ideas as having our insurance premiums covered as is done in at least two other provinces. Towards this end, I spent two years on the Provincial Political Action Committee where our efforts were quite successful. We do have a greater say and the matter of premium coverage is under review. (Note: with the current economic climate, it is unlikely that improvements to current pensions will be made in the near future.) I then addressed my second concern and that was the possibility of weakening RTO/ERO by other retired teachers groups being started. For that reason, I have served on the Membership Services Committee for the past three years. We're getting there.
